They also don't need "team-building." Successful executive work IS team-building, real-time-team-building, IF the objective is not only to get outstanding results this time, but also to ... GET OUTSTANDING RESULTS TIME-AND-TIME-AGAIN.

As for new capabilities: describe the imageNone of us learned to ride a bike by going to a Bike-riding-training. We got the equipment, put the wheels on the road, hopped on, Believed we could do it, and then we ...  RODE THE DAMN BIKE! 

(Often getting coaching and a steadying hand on the back of the seat to give us the brief exper-ience of riding well)   and then we ... RODE THE BIKE A LOT!

(comparing our performance with friends in the neighborhood, and adjusting our technique and level of confidence along the way. Pretty soon we could ride the bike anywhere under any conditions.) 

When the new models came out with advanced breaks and gears, we did it all over again.

No one, especially senior executives, want to be told about the bike. They want to ride the bike!

My advice for all internal OD Consultants, Coaches, and Advisors is to not get in their way! Learn how to help them improve and accelerate while they're riding the proverbial bike, anywhere, anytime!
